Prayagraj’s Ganga Ghats to get a facelift on the pattern of ghats in Kashi

04 April, 2023: If all goes as per plan, Ganga ghats in Prayagraj would undergo a complete changeover soon.
The Yogi government is all set to revamp a total of seven bathing ghats situated on the banks of Ganga in Prayagraj, as part of its initiative to make the forthcoming Mahakumbh 2025, a grand event. For the task , the state government has prepared a comprehensive plan to make the ghats coming under the ambit of Kumbh area a tourist attraction. Apart from construction of permanent ghats, there are plans to illuminate these ghats with lights of different colors and shapes at night.

Ganges ghats will be illuminated at a cost of Rs 300 crores

On the pattern of ‘Paint My City’ initiative, which gave Prayagraj Kumbh-2019 a new identity by displaying city’s religious tradition and ancient glory on main walls of city’s government and public places, this time there is a plan to give a new look to the Ganga Ghats of Prayagraj.
According to Arvind Singh Chauhan, Vice-Chairman of Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA), the team of Mission for Clean Ganga, which had come to test the possibilities of construction of concrete ghats on the banks of Ganga and Yamuna, had submitted its proposal for illuminating ghats at a cost of Rs 300 crore, which has duly been forwarded to government for its approval.

Seven ghats will be illuminated with coloured lights

The Kumbh Mela Authority has made a proposal to develop the major 7 Ghats of Prayagraj as tourism centers on the pattern of Ghats of Kashi. According to the PDA officials, these ghats include Dashashwamedh Ghat, Qila Ghat, Saraswati Ghat, Chhatnag Ghat, Bhairav Ghat, Rasulabad Ghat and the Ghat behind Ewing Christian College. As part of the exercise, Selfie points would be made here besides benches and sheds would also be set up here for the tourists to relax. Also, beautiful models of various tourist places of state would also be put on display at these ghats. During evening and night time, these ghats will be illuminated with floodlights.
