Ahead of the Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP)’s proposed Tiranga March at Central Park, Connaught Place, the Delhi Police and the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) have tightened security and imposed restrictions in the area.
Addressing a press conference, DCP Neha Yadav said the police may permit a group of 11 individuals to carry the national flag and sing the national anthem at a designated location, subject to strict compliance with rules governing the display of the Tiranga and proper respect for the national anthem. She emphasized that dignity and decorum must be maintained at all times.
The clarification came after CJP, through social media and public appeals, called upon citizens to gather at Central Park at 5 pm on Friday carrying the national flag. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has also extended support to the proposed event and urged its workers to participate.
Delhi Police, however, stated that Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) is in force in Connaught Place and adjoining areas to maintain law and order, public safety and property protection.
Police officials further said that the NDMC ordered the closure of Central Park on October 16 and 17 for administrative reasons and requested strict security measures to prevent unauthorized entry into the park.
Trader associations and market bodies in Connaught Place also approached the police, expressing concern that protests and unlawful gatherings during the festive season could disrupt business activities. The matter was also raised before the Delhi High Court, where the police assured the court that adequate steps would be taken to address concerns regarding public order and commercial operations.
