Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday accused the Central government of breaking the back of middle class through “tax terrorism” and claimed that all this was being done to save and increase the wealth of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “friends”. He said that he stands with all hardworking and honest Indian citizens against this terror and injustice.

In a post on his WhatsApp channel, Rahul Gandhi said, “Tax terrorism is a dangerous face of BJP rule. This is the truth. Today in India, the burden of ‘tax target’ has been completely put on the income of the middle class.” He claimed that there has been no increase in the salary of middle class for years, but income tax was on the rise sans any control.

The Congress leader further wrote, “In this terrible era of inflation, the middle class, which survives by paying heavy GST on everything, should think whether your income is more than that of big corporates or businessmen? Are you getting any special benefit of government facilities? No, right!”

”Then why are these indiscriminate taxes being collected from you (the middle class)?”, he questioned.

Rahul Gandhi further stated, ”When you are intimidated, your pockets are picked by imposing arbitrary taxes, this is the chakravyuh of ‘tax terrorism’.” He further wrote, ”Modi ji is breaking the back of the middle class of India to save and increase the wealth of his ‘friends’. I stand with all hardworking, honest Indian citizens against this terror and injustice.”

It may be mentioned that the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, had to do a facepalm in during post budget discussion when Rahul Gandhi took a jibe at her referring to the traditional halwa ceremony, and said ‘Desh ka halwa but raha hai’. According to reports he vowed that the budget did nothing to end this tax terrorism.

“We expected that it would help farmers, labourers and small and medium businesses. But the sole aim of the business is to strengthen the framework of monopoly business, political monopoly and the deep state or the agencies. The budget did nothing to end this tax terrorism,” he said.

“The Finance Minister is laughing, remarkable! This is not a laughing matter madam. This is caste census. This will change the country. We expected that it would help farmers, labourers and small and medium businesses. The budget did nothing to end this tax terrorism,” said Rahul Gandhi.

The Congress MP from Raebareli has been hitting out at the government on the issue of tax terrorism repeatedly over past couple of years, and more forcefully after the fomation of Modi 3.0 coalition government.
