Coming down heavily on the recent incidents of spit and urine being mixed with food and juice before being served, which shocked the nation, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath while inaugurating a floating restaurant in Ramgarh Tal in Gorakhpur said that at least here, one will not be served ‘rotis with spit’ or ‘Hapur-wala juice’.
On September 12, a video showing a teenager spitting on rotis while preparing them at an eating joint in Saharanpur district had gone viral on social media, leading to the arrest of the eating joint owner.
Last week, a juice vendor in Ghaziabad district was arrested for allegedly serving to customers, fruit juices mixed with urine.
Also, in June this year, two men were arrested by police in Noida for allegedly selling juice contaminated with their spits.
Earlier this year, the Uttar Pradesh government had issued directives that owners of road side food stalls as well as fruit vendors, falling along the Kanwar Yatra routes would display the names of shop owners.
The logic behind the directive, which faced criticizm by a section of people, was aimed at promoting transparency and providing information to Kanwariya regarding the food they eat.
The floating restaurant named ‘Float’, that the UP CM inaugurated has attractive interiors and is a three-floor, 9,600 square-foot facility that could accommodate nearly 100 to 150 visitors at a time. The construction of the floating restaurant began on August 17, 2022.
