A case of gross negligence in the maintenance and preservation of the iconic testament of love, the Taj Mahal, has shocked one and all. A video exposing the negligence went viral on social media which the Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav raise questions on negligence in its maintenance on X.

In his post on X in Hindi SP chief Akhilesh Yadav wrote, “The BJP government and its lax departments have completely failed to maintain the Taj Mahal, a wonder that attracts tourists from all over the globe. There is a possibility of rusting of the metal of the urn on the main dome besides water is also dripping from the main dome. News of trees growing in the dome is in the headlines. If the roots of trees like these grow, then cracks can appear in the Taj Mahal. The Taj Mahal complex has become a sanctuary for monkeys, there is a problem of waterlogging in the Taj Mahal complex.”

Yadav further wrote – “The problem of tourists is whether they should see the Taj Mahal or deal with the problems. Due to all these reasons, the country’s image is tarnished at the global level amongst tourists arriving from all over the world. The question is where does the crores of rupees of funds that come for the maintenance of the Taj Mahal go? The government should be a living and active example, not just a monument.”

Allegations of negligence on ASI

A large number of tourists from all over the country and world come to see the Taj Mahal every day, as it is the first choice of tourists. However, after the video of a plant growing on the Taj Mahal wall went viral, the spot light has turned over the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), entrusted with the task of maintaining the iconic masterpiece.

During rains , water enters joints of monuments causing sprouting of plants: ASI

Commenting on the viral video of the plant spoiling the beauty of Taj Mahal, ASI Superintendent, Agra Dr Rajkumar Patel said that during rainy season, water enters the joints of the monuments and birds peck at them, which results in trees grow from the joints. Incident of trees growing all over the monument was nothing new, said Patel. He further stated that what was important was that such plants should be removed only when they are 5 cm or 10 cm in size because if they are bigger, they would cause damage to the structure. Hence the plant shown in the video would be removed in about 10 days.
