Upset over the comments of Bollywood actress-turned-Member of Parliament Kangana Ranaut on farm laws, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is finding itself on a sticky wicket against a full-throated opposition leaving no chance to cash on Ranaut’s follies in politics.
On Wednesday, the BJP continued to distance itself from it’s Mandi MP over her statement on farm laws.
In a post on X, Party’s national spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill termed her remarks as ‘baseless and illogical’, stating that the Mandi MP’s statement were damaging the good work done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Shergill wrote on X, “As a Punjabi, must say that Ms Kangana Ranaut’s consistent, baseless, illogical rant against the Farmers of Punjab & Sikh Community has a damaging impact on all the good work done/being done by PM @narendramodi Ji for the welfare of Punjab, Punjabi & Punjabiyat.”
BJP spokesperson’s remark, which came merely an hour after Kangana had apologized, also added that the PM’s bond, with the Famers of Punjab, should not be seen through the lens of “irresponsible comments being made by one MP”.
His post on X further read, “PM@narendramodi’s bond with Farmers & Punjab cannot be and must not be judged thru lens of one MP’s irresponsible comments.”
“There should not be any doubt that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s bond with Punjab with the farmer of Punjab with Punjabiyat is an unbreakable bond, unshakable bond,” he added
Mandi Lok Sabha MP Kangana Ranaut had suggested that the three farm laws that were repealed following prolonged farmer protests should be brought back.
The actor-turned-politician was quoted as saying, “I know this statement could be controversial, but the three farm laws should be brought back. Farmers themselves should demand it.” After the BJP stated that her comments were ‘not authorized’ by the party, Kangana retracted her remarks and issued an apology on X. She added that in future, she would ensure her views remained in alignment with party’s stance rather than representing her personal opinions.
Earlier on Tuesday, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia had also said that the remarks of Ranaut were “personal statements” and didn’t reflect BJP’s view on farm bills.
This is not the first time the actor-turned politician has stoked controversy with her statments. She had last month landed her self in soup over her controversial statement suggesting that the farmers’s protest could have ld to a Bangladesh-like situation in the country, in the BJP’s top leadership was not strong enough.
