May 08, 2023: Adding yet another feather in the cap of Sangam city, the civil airport has earned laurels that have left all the other domestic airports of the state behind, be it the number of flights made operational over the years amongst any of the nearly a dozen domestic airports in Uttar Pradesh or level of customer satisfaction.
The efforts of the Yogi Adityanath government in state which left no stone unturned in ensuring availability of maximum air service facility right from the time of Kumbhe Mela-2019 seems to have begun to bear fruit.
The Prayagraj airport has connected the holy city with other different parts of the country by air which would prove beneficial for tourists and pilgrims in the forthcoming Kumbh Mela 2025.
A big leap in flight operations
The Prayagraj airport which was opened as a civil terminal in January 2019 by the Yogi government just before the commencement of Kumbh Mela 2019 has witnessed steady rise in number of flights connecting the holy city of Prayag to other destinations the country over. Prayagraj Airport has achieved the big achievement as mentioned in the report released by the Airport Authority of India (AAI) regarding the operation of flights and the number of passengers.
As per RR Pandey, Director of Prayagraj Airport, by April 30, 2023, the number of aircraft movements at Prayagraj Airport had increased to 25,247.
As per official data made available, in 2019, a total of 4470 flights were operated from the civil terminal, whereas in 2020, their number was recorded at 3968. Further, in the year 2021, once again their count increased to 6325 while the number of flights swelled to 7836 in 2022 and finally has increased to 25,247 in 2023. The continuous increase in count of flights over the last four years made Prayagraj Airport surge ahead of other domestic airports in UP. It may be mentioned that Lucknow and Varanasi airports are ahead of Prayagraj as both are international airports and do not come under the domestic category.
Customer-satisfaction makes Prayagraj Airport bag top spot in UP
Prayagraj Airport also bagged the top spot in domestic airport category in UP in terms of customer satisfaction while Prayagraj Airport is ranked 13th in the category in country. In terms of quality of domestic airport at all India level, facilities at Prayagraj Airport are continuously developing which has led to a continuous improvement in the level of customer satisfaction thus making Prayagraj Airport been ranked 13th in the survey conducted on customer satisfaction among 64 airports in the country.

24 domestic flights connect 12 cities to Prayagraj
Yogi government has initiated several measures in connecting the Kumbh Nagri of Prayagraj with different cities of the country besides laid emphasis on availability of international level facilities at the airport. As per director of Prayagraj Airport RR Pandey, presently 24 domestic flights operated from the airport to 12 cities. The number of passengers traveling by air from here has also witnessed a steady rise over the years. In 2022, a significant 5,48,310 passengers boarded flight from Prayagraj Airport. As per the official, every year the count of passengers was registering a continuous increase of over one lakh.

Indigo Airlines is presently offering its services from Prayagraj to Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Raipur, Indore, Bhopal, Lucknow, Delhi and Dehradun while Alliance Air has direct service from Prayagraj to Delhi, Dehradun and Bilaspur.
