The ongoing maiden session of 18th Lok Sabha is witnessing a verbal Mahabharat over the Hindu epic ‘Mahabharat’. First it was the Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi on July 29, comparing Prime Minister’s governance failures to ‘Chakravyuh’ wherein Abhimanyu (youths of the country) was killed.
Today Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan took a retaliatory shot at Rahul Gandhi with a reference to Hindu epic Mahabharat. Without taking names, Chouhan said the 21st century ‘Chakravyuh’ references made in Parliament were of “adharm”.
“Even when he referred to the Mahabharat, he recalled Shakuni, Chakravyuh, Chausar, all linked to unrighteousness. Shakuni was a symbol of deceit, betrayal and fraud. Why does Congress always think of all this,” the former Madhya Pradesh CM said.
Chouhan said, however, whenever the BJP referred to Mahabharat, reference of Lord Krishna were brought in.
The verbal retaliation on Rahul Gandhi arrived days after the latter had launched an offensive on Bharatiya Janata Party government in Lok Sabha, alleging that the latter had trapped countrymen in a 21st century ‘chakravyuh’.
On July 29, a post on social platform X by Rahul Gandhi had stated, “In Kurukshetra, Abhimanyu was trapped and killed in a Chakravyuh – a formation controlled by six people, and also known as Padmavyuh for its resemblance to a lotus formation. Today a 21st century lotus-shaped Chakravyuh is trapping India and is controlled by six figures: Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Adani, Ambani, Ajit Doval, and Mohan Bhagwat.”
The post had further mentioned “This modern Chakravyuh has trapped our, Youth in a Chakravyuh of unemployment and paper leak, farmers in a Chakravyuh of debt, Middle class in a Chakravyuh of Tax, MSMEs in a Chakravyuh of Tax Terrorism, Jawans in a Chakravyuh of Agnipath and SC, ST, OBC, Minorities in a Chakravyuh of Anyay.”
Gandhi had also named two industrialists during his speech, whose names were expunged from record following on directive of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, who denied permission to take names of people not member of Lok Sabha.
