August 01, 2023: The Uttar Pradesh Higher Education Service Commission had recently conducted recruitments on 290 posts of Principals of different colleges in state under advertisement number-49. After declaration of examination results, Directorate of Higher Education had issued appointment letters to 284 selected candidates through counseling. However, just within a year’s span of all the selected candidates having joined their duties, more than 60 principals who had joined in state’s non-government aided colleges resigned on different pretexts.
Sources revealed some resigned due to dispute with management of their respective colleges while some quit their job owing to their posting being far away from their home. Left in a lurch, such colleges are now forced to run the show with officiating principals.
Owing to change in the process of college allotment, a significant chunk of candidates got joining far away from their place of previous posting. The candidates worked for a few days, but later left the job owing to inconvenience and returned to their old college. At the same time, many candidates got the post of professor due to promotion. Such candidates resigned from the post of Principal giving priority to their old college.
Sources in the Directorate of Higher Education informed that before the appointment of permanent principals, acting principals were posted in most of the colleges, on whom the management used to put pressure easily. After the new appointment, many cases came to light, in which there was tension between the management and the principals on some issue and the complaint reached the directorate.
At the same time, in many cases, when the principals came to join after the college allotment, the management did not make them join. In such cases the Directorate had to intervene directly. In one such college in Meerut, the tussle between management and the principal increased so much that the management suspended the principal and later on being reinstated from suspension, the principal resigned from the college and joined his old college.
Hence due to all these reasons, over 60 posts of principals once again turned vacant in non-government colleges.
