Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Monday thanked supporters, INDIA bloc leaders and party workers for participating in the alliance’s march to the Supreme Court, describing the protest as a united stand against what he called threats to democracy and the Constitution.
In a video message posted on X after the march, Rahul Gandhi expressed gratitude to those who joined the protest and to the people who showed solidarity from across the country. He said the demonstration was intended to send a clear message that citizens would not be intimidated or silenced.
“The people of India will not be cowed down. We will not accept threats or intimidation,” Gandhi said, while praising Congress workers and INDIA bloc supporters for what he described as a coordinated and peaceful show of unity.
The Congress leader also launched a sharp attack on the RSS and the central government. Referring to recent incidents of violence, Gandhi questioned the absence of those he described as “cowards,” alleging that they resort to force but avoid confronting people who stand up collectively. He further accused the ruling establishment of relying on intimidation rather than democratic engagement.
Reiterating the opposition alliance’s position, Gandhi said the protest represented a common struggle rather than separate political campaigns. He asserted that all parties within the INDIA bloc were united in defending democratic institutions and constitutional values.
“We are standing together to protect the Constitution and democracy. We will not back down,” he said, thanking participants for what he called their commitment to the ideals of India.
The remarks came after INDIA bloc leaders, led by Rahul Gandhi, marched to the Supreme Court to protest alleged electoral irregularities and the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The opposition alliance has accused the poll body of acting in a manner that could affect the integrity of the electoral process, while the Election Commission has maintained that the exercise is being conducted in accordance with established procedures.
