Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi took to X to express his anguish over the hate crimes taking place almost every day in different parts of the country. From assaulting Hussain, a Chalisgaon resident in North Maharashtra, in train on August 28, while he was on his way to visit his daughter’s home in Kalyan, located on the outskirts of Mumbai, aboard the Dhule CSMT Express which left him with physical injuries and trauma, to five cow vigilantes allegedly killing a man in Haryana’s Charkhi Dadri for over suspicion of having consumed beef. The five accused suspected that Sabir Malik, a labourer who had come to Haryana from Bihar, had consumed beef, and so they plotted to kill him, the police said.

In his post in Hindi on X, Rahul Gandhi wrote, “Those who have climbed the ladder of power by making hatred a political weapon are continuously establishing the rule of fear in the country. The hateful elements hidden in the form of the mob are openly spreading violence, challenging the rule of law.”

Attacking the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led government at Center, he wrote, “These miscreants have got a free hand from the BJP government, that is why they have developed the courage to do so.”

Holding the government responsible for the hate crimes, he said, “There are continuous attacks on minorities, especially Muslims, and the government machinery is watching as a mute spectator.”

He further wrote, “The authority of the law should be established by taking the strictest action against such anarchist elements.”
