Purpose of introducing the Digi Yatra app
The app was launched to support contactless passenger identification at airports. The Digi Yatra project of the Ministry of Civil Aviation aims to allow air passengers to travel hassle-free sans any health risk. It is a process that uses facial biometrics to digitally verify travel, identity, health or other essential data for air travel.
It also ensures enhanced security at the airport, as passenger data will be verified with the airlines departure control system. That means only designated passengers can enter the terminal. The entire process is secure and automatic.
No more ID card required
The Digiyatra Biometric Boarding System is integrated with the identity document, hence passengers no longer need to show their ticket/boarding pass and their physical identity card at the airport check port.
