March 31, 2023: The woes of former MP and mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Khalid Azim alias Ashraf seems not to end soon, atleast not for now. The Prayagraj police has once again reached Bareilly jail on Friday to bring Ashraf back to Prayagraj for being produced in CJM court in connection with the Umesh Pal murder case. Both the brothers are main accused in the Pal murder case which took place on February 24.
Ashraf has also been accused of hatching a conspiracy in the Umesh Pal murder case. In this case, Prayagraj police got permission to bring Ashraf from Bareilly jail from the CJM court on March 28. Police is expected to judicial remand of Ashraf by producing him in the CJM court and on approval of the same, police will seek Ashraf’s custody for questioning. As per sources, Prayagraj police was likely to seek 14-day custodial remand of Ashraf for questioning in the murder case.
On March 27, the Prayagraj police took Ashraf to Bareilly jail after he was produced in the MPMLA court in the Umesh Pal kidnapping case of wherein he was acquitted along with seven others while his elder brother Atiq Ahmed and two others were awarded life sentence.
Shooters met Ashraf before Umesh Pal murder case in Bareilly jail
The Umesh Pal murder case conspiracy had been found to be linked to Ashraf lodged in Bareilly Jail. Before the murder of Umesh Pal in Prayagraj, Ashraf’s henchmen had visited Bareilly and met him in jail.
Ashraf fears for his life outside jail
On his return to Bareilly jail from Prayagraj on March 27, halid Azeem alias Ashraf had alleged that an officer had threatened him that though he had escaped punishment in kidnapping case, he would be killed after being taken out of jail after two weeks. Ashraf, further claimed that he had no fear inside the jail premises but was afraid that his life was in danger outside the jail.
Sources revealed that after Ashraf, mafia Atiq Ahmed could also be brought back to Prayagraj from Sabarmati Jail anytime.
