The police investigations into stampede incident which occurred at Sangam Nose during the second Amrit snan of Mauni Amavasya in Mahakumbh Mela have intensified.
Some people in the devotee crowd at Sangam nose on the ill-fated day have been found to move suspiciously as seen in the CCTV footage of the stampede incident. On the basis of the footage, the police are trying to zero in on the identity of suspects. At the same time, intelligence agencies have also been activated so that the conspiracy could be exposed.
30 devotees had died while 60 were left seriously injured during the stampede at Sangam nose during the second Amrit Snan of Mauni Amavasya on January 29.
After the incident, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had himself inspected the spot and enquired about the arrangements made post stampede for the injured.
As per sources, the suspicious people seen in footage of these CCTV cameras installed at the spot have not been identified yet. Working on the conspiracy angle the state government is said to have also roped in Anti Terror Squad (ATS) and Special Task Force (STF).
It may be mentioned that the Mahakumbh 2025 had been marred with several shockers since the beginning. Before commencement of the mela, Uttar Pradesh Police had detained a Class 11 student from Bihar’s Purnia district who had threatened to bomb the Mahakumbh Mela. The accused allegedly created a fake Instagram profile in the name of one his classmates to settle a score, and posted provocative content from it, including a threat to kill 1,000 devotees at the Mahakumbh.
Further, on January 14, a Muslim youth was caught at the Juna Akhara who had sneaked inside and reached the room of Mahamandaleshwar of Juna Akhara and Dasna temple Mahant Yati Narsinghanand Giri, expressing desire to meet him.
The youth had initially introduced himself as Ayush, but suspicion grew among the saints after he failed to produce any valid identity card. Subsequently, he was handed over to the police for further verification. To everyone’s shock, during police interrogation, the youth revealed his real name as Ayub Ali and hailed from Etah Lalganj.
Further, on January 20, a fire broke out in the camp of Geeta Press located in Sector Number 19. A large number of straw tents were burnt to ashes in it. However, two days later, the terrorist organization ‘Khalistani Zindabad Force’ had taken responsibility for the incident and even emailed several media houses. Before the start of the fair, terrorist Pannu had threatened to take revenge for the Pilibhit encounter.
According to DIG Mahakumbh Vaibhav Krishna some videos related to the stampede on Mauni Amavasya are being analyzed. Some suspicious persons and activities are also visible in it. The matter is being investigated, and efforts are being made to identify the suspects.
