Active cases of corona in the country have crossed the 5000 mark. On May 22, a total of 275 cases were present in India which have increased 20 times in the last 15 days. According to data of Union Health ministry, Kerala remained the most affected state in active corona cases in India followed by Gujarat, West Bengal and Delhi.
In view of sudden spurt in active cases, Center has started conducting mock drills to check the preparations for Corona. All the states have been instructed to ensure availability of oxygen, isolation beds, ventilators and essential medicines in view of the increasing cases of Covid cases. Presently, 5,364 active cases are present in India while four new deaths were reported in last 24 hours.
A total of 55 deaths in the country since January
According to official sources, most of the cases were mild or asymptomatic which could be treated at home, through isolation to check its spread to others. A total of 55 deaths have occurred in the country since January this year due to Corona.
Earlier on June 2 and 3, a series of technical review meetings were held under the chairmanship of Director General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Sunita Sharma with Disaster Management Cell, Emergency Management Response (EMR) Cell, National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Integrated Disease Surveillance Program (IDSP), representatives of Central Government Hospitals in Delhi besides representatives of all states and union territories to evaluate the current Corona situation and preparedness.
Closely monitored
On June 4, official sources informed that state and district surveillance units under the IDSP were closely monitoring influenza-like illness (ILI) and severe acute respiratory illness (SARI). As per guidelines, testing is recommended for all admitted SARI cases and 5 per cent of ILI cases. Positive SARI samples are sent for whole genome sequencing through the ICMR VRDL network, informed an official source.
