BJP’s 5 ministers have cases of crime against women, its two MPs are rape accused

The country is on boil over the brutal rape and murder of 31-year-old doctor of RG Kar Medical College, West Bengal. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been in offensive mode since the gory incident took place demanding resignation of West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee. The case had to be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and with intervention of Supreme Court, who took suo motto cognizance of the case and subsequent assurances to agitating doctors, the 11-day strike of Resident Doctors Association (RDA) of All India Institute of Medical Science and other hospitals came to an end today.

However, what the BJP forgets is to introspect its own government. An analysis by poll body ADR and National Election Watch of the self-sworn affidavits of 71 ministers out of 72 including Prime Minister from Lok Sabha Elections 2024 and current Rajya Sabha revealed shocking details about their criminal cases.

The Analytical report revealed, out of the 71 Ministers analyzed, a shocking 28 (39%) Ministers have declared criminal cases against themselves while 19 (27%) Ministers have declared serious criminal cases including cases related to attempt to murder, kidnapping, crimes against women, etc.

The details of minister George Kurien were not analyzed as he is the only minister who is not currently member of either house and he did contest the Lok Sabha Election.

Five tainted ministers in Modi 3.0 with declared cases of crime against women

The Modi government gunning for West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee’s resignation for the rape and murder of junior doctor itself has five of its own cabinet ministers having declared cases of crime against women lodged against their names.

Minister of State in Ministry of Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar, presently has 42 declared criminal cases lodged under 30 serious sections of IPC including 354 related to Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty and 354-A related to sexual harassment (unwelcome physical contact, advances, demand, request for sexual favours, showing pornography, sexually coloured remark) etc.

Similarly, Minister of State Port, Shipping and Waterways Shantanu Thakur, elected from Bangaon constituency in West Bengal has 23 criminal cases lodged under 37 serious sections of IPC including charges related to word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman (IPC Section-509), forgery (IPC Section-465), house-trespass (IPC Section448) wrongful restraint (IPC Section-341), cheating by personation (IPC Section-419), criminal trespass (IPC Section-447), Forgery for purpose of harming reputation (IPC Section-469), etc.

Another BJP MP from West Bengal’s Balurghat constituency Sukanta Majumdar presently Minister of State for Education and Development of Northeastern region has 16 criminal cases lodged under 30 serious sections of IPC related to word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman (IPC Section-509), Criminal Trespass (IPC Section-447), Rioting (IPC Section-147), Wrongful Restraint (IPC Section-341), etc.

The list of tainted minister with cases of crime against women also has Minister of State Petroleum Suresh Gopi having 4 declared criminal cases lodged under serious sections of IPC including assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty (IPC Section-354), Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property (IPC Section-420), Rioting (IPC Section-147), etc.

Minister of Tribal Affairs Jual Oram, also has 3 declared criminal cases under several sections of IPC including wrongful restraint (IPC Section-341), being member of an unlawful assembly (IPC Section-143), etc.

15 MPs have cases of crimes against women, two MPs are rape accused

Interesting of the total 543 newly elected MPs in the 18th Lok Sabha, 15 winning candidates have declared cases related to crimes against women. Shockingly out of these grossly tainted 15 winning candidates, 2 candidates have declared charges related to rape (IPC Section-376). Moreover, both these rape accused are from the ruling BJP.

The first rape accused MP us Madhavaneni Raghunandan Rao who has 29 criminal cases lodged against his name under 7 serious sections of IPC including rape (IPC Section-376). He won elections from Medak constituency in Telangana.

The second rape accused MP from ruling party is Khan Saumitra from Bishnupur constituency of West Bengal. He has 15 criminal cases lodged under 29 serious sections of IPC including rape (IPC Section-376).

Two ministers in Modi 3.0 have Attempt to Murder (IPC Section 307) cases

The present cabinet led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has two of its minister with cases related to attempt to murder (IPC Section 307) against themselves. They include Shantanu Thakur, Minister of State Port, Shipping and Waterways in Modi 3.0. An MP from West Bengal’s Bangaon parliamentary constituency, the minister has a significant 23 criminal cases lodged under 37 serious sections of IPC including attempt to murder. Another minister with similar crime status in Modi cabinet is Sukanta Majumdar, also from West Bengal’s Balurghat. Presently serving as Minister of State for Education and Development of Northeastern region, he has 16 criminal cases lodged under 30 serious sections of IPC.

Four MPs in 18th Lok Sabha have murder cases (IPC 302)

The 18th Lok Sabha has four MPs with cases related to murder (Indian Penal Code Section-302). These tainted public representatives include Afzal Ansari of Samajwadi Party from Ghazipur Uttar Pradesh with 5 criminal cases lodged under 4 serious sections of IPC include murder (IPC 302), BJP’s Shrimant Chh Udayanraje Pratapsinhamaharaj Bhonsle from Satara, Maharashtrawith 4 declared criminal cases lodged under 6 serious sections of IPC including murder, BJP’s Jagannath Sarkar from Ranaghat in West Bengal. He has 4 declared criminal cases under serious sections of IPC including murder (IPC 302). Kdapa MP from Andhra Pradesh Y. S. Avinash Reddy of YSR Congress Party has two declared criminal cases including that for murder.

27 MPs have attempt to murder (IPC Section-307) cases

A significant 27 MPs in 18th Lok Sabha have declared cases of attempt to murder (IPC Section-307) including 11 from BJP, 3 MPs from Samajwadi Party, 2 MPs each from Congress and AITC, 1 MP each from RJD, CPI (ML), TDP, Shiv Sena (UBT), Rashtriya Lok Tantrik Party, Aazad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram), Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi besides two independents.
