The Uttar Pradesh government has renamed the Noida International Airport at Jewar as Narendra Modi International Airport. Announcing the decision on Friday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said the state cabinet had approved the proposal and expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the airport, describing it as a significant gift to Uttar Pradesh.

Speaking to the media, Adityanath said the airport is set to become the largest in Uttar Pradesh and one of India’s major aviation hubs. The airport was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 28 this year, while its first flight landed on June 15, when an IndiGo aircraft arrived from Lucknow.

The airport has been developed by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited, a subsidiary of Switzerland-based Zurich Airport International AG, in partnership with Noida International Airport Limited, the implementing agency of the Uttar Pradesh government.

Constructed at a cost of Rs 11,282 crore, the airport’s first phase has an annual passenger handling capacity of 1.2 crore, which can be expanded to 7 crore passengers in the coming years. It features a 3,900-metre-long runway capable of accommodating wide-body aircraft along with advanced navigation systems.

Designed as a multimodal transport hub, the airport will offer seamless connectivity through air, road, and other transport networks. Besides world-class passenger facilities, it has been equipped with advanced security infrastructure to ensure the safety of passengers and airport assets.

The airport’s runway is fitted with Instrument Landing System (ILS) facilities at both ends, enabling aircraft to approach and land from either direction depending on wind conditions, thereby enhancing operational efficiency and safety.
