The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Samajwadi Party (SP) were elected unopposed to all 10 Rajya Sabha seats from Uttar Pradesh after the nomination papers of two Independent candidates were rejected during scrutiny, leaving no contest in the election. Consequently, polling scheduled for October 16 has been cancelled.

The BJP secured eight seats, while the SP won two. The result also marks the end of the Bahujan Samaj Party’s (BSP) representation in the Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh.

The BJP’s winning candidates are Dharm Pal Singh, Prakash Pal, Shruti Gangwar, Vidyasagar Sonkar, Priyanka Singh Rawat, Radhakant Ojha, Gopi Krishna Pandey and Ram Pratap Singh Chauhan. The SP’s successful candidates are senior leader Ram Gopal Yadav and industrialist Dhanraj Parimal Nathwani.

Returning Officer Ajit Kumar Verma completed the election process on Friday and handed over certificates to the newly elected members. Most BJP candidates collected their certificates in person at the Uttar Pradesh Assembly complex, while representatives received certificates on behalf of Ram Gopal Yadav and Radhakant Ojha.

The tenure of the outgoing members ends on November 25. Earlier, the BJP held eight of these seats, while the SP and BSP held one seat each.

Meanwhile, BJP leader Dinesh Kumar Arya was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Uttarakhand after no other candidate entered the fray. In West Bengal, actress-turned-politician Rukmini Mallik, who recently joined the BJP, was also elected unopposed to the Upper House.
