IndiGo, the country’s biggest domestic carrier, has crossed a major diversity milestone by inducting more than 1,000 women pilots into its ranks—representing 17.5% of its total pilot strength. According to the airline, this figure is over three times the global average, making IndiGo the first and only Indian airline to achieve this benchmark.

Women form a significant part of IndiGo’s overall workforce as well. The company said women constitute over 45% of its employees. Their presence extends across key verticals: more than 30% of airport operations staff, nearly a quarter of the Operations Control Centre team, over 20% of the finance department, and upward of 15% in digital roles. Leadership representation is also rising, with women holding more than 23% of senior positions. IndiGo said it is continuing to strengthen equal-opportunity pathways across departments.

To mark International Women’s Day, the airline also released a special film on its social 0media platforms, celebrating the journeys of its women employees. The film highlights moments that inspired them to take flight—figuratively and literally—reinforcing the theme of “Girl Power.”

The airline said it has been advancing women-led initiatives that support career development, workplace flexibility and community-building. Its ‘Take-Off 2.0’ programme helps women return to the aviation workforce after career breaks, while the ‘6E Girl Power Community’ serves as a peer-support network aimed at empowering women across different functions.
