Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to reach 75 on September 17, an undeclared benchmark signaling RSS leaders to move from active to the passive phase of activism.
And this is what many a leaders from all over the country including from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as well as the opposition bunch, are carefully watching.
Amidst closed door murmurs in political corridors to crossed fingered bête noirs of PM Modi, the murmurings were paused for a while as firebrand, six-time BJP MP Subramanian Swamy dropped a bomb on social media platform X saying that if Modi did not adhere to the RSS Pracharak’s norms, he will have to forego PM’s chair through other methods.
It may be mentioned that Subramanian Swamy has been a critic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a long time now and has been vocal of the faulty policies of BJP government at Centre.
Swamy wrote on X ,“If Modi does not, as committed to RSS Pracharak’s Sanskaar, announce his retiring to Marg Darshan Mandal after his 75th year birthday on Sept 17th, then he will lose his PM chair by other methods.” Subramanian Swamy is pointing towards an unwritten rule of BJP.
After Narendra Modi became Prime Minister in 2014, many stalwarts in BJP had been showed the door for Marg Darshan Mandal, an undeclared compulsory retirement from active politics post crossing the age of 75. For this reason, veterans like Lal Krishna Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi had to sit in the ‘Margdarshan Mandal’. Another BJP biggie Sumitra Mahajan also could not contest the elections owing to the same.
Interestingly in the post, Subramanian Swamy did not reveal about what would be the other methods due to which PM Modi may have to lose his PM’s chair. BJP leader preferring anonymity guessed that this time since BJP could not get majority on its own in Lok Sabha elections, though it managed to emerge as the biggest party in this election, may be Swamy’s hint could be towards the pressure from alliance partners or ‘moral pressure’.
Says political analyst Abhay Awasthi, “Subramanyan Swamy has many a shots up his sleeves. Being a severe critic of PM Modi, he must have some proofs against him, which he would use if Modi fails to move to Margdarshan Mandal and sticks to his chair after September 17. As bickerings have started amongst coalition partners of the Modi 3. government making it climbdown on several decisions like the Waqf Amendment Bill, the real estate indexation rules and Broadcasting Regulation Bill, Modi’s exit is not something that could not be written off completely in present scenario,”
He said, after the ‘400 paar’ narrative crashed on June 4 this year, BJP will have to redo its strategy and not stick to the Modi 1.0 and Modi 2.0 rulebook of working.
Member of Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) Javed Urfi said, “It is well said What goes up has to come down. This government will not last long as Modi magic was fading with each passing day. Body language of double-engine sarkar had changed dramatically which was proof enough of what was in the offing.”
